Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne

Design-led wayfinding delivered with precision, performance, and care. The Relationship Braille Tactile Signs Aust. was engaged by Diadem to manufacture the Braille Tactile Signs for the new Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne. The project required close collaboration to support a highly considered design outcome, with a strong focus on consistency, colour integration, and delivery within a complex and tight construction programme. The Project The Royal Children’s Hospital is one of Australia’s leading paediatric healthcare facilities, designed to create a welcoming and engaging environment for patients, families, and staff. Following more than seven years of planning and construction, the new hospital was officially opened in 2011, representing a significant investment in healthcare infrastructure and patient experience. The signage formed part of this broader vision, contributing to wayfinding that is both functional and aligned with the architectural design. The hospital was officially opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, marking its significance as a landmark project where only the highest standards of quality, design, and performance were expected. The Outcome Braille Tactile Signs Aust. manufactured signage across the facility, supporting a consistent and cohesive approach throughout. The outcome included: • Custom Colour Combinations Aligned to Each Level of the Hospital• Consistent Sign Formats and Layouts Throughout• Integration with the Broader Interior Design Palette• Reliable Delivery Within a Demanding Project Timeline The signage supports clear navigation while contributing to the overall environment and experience of the hospital. The Value Over Time Healthcare environments require signage that performs consistently over time. CSE_Tech (Continuous Surface Encapsulated) was selected for its suitability in high-use environments, supporting: • Hygienic, Easy-to-Clean Surfaces• Durability Under Frequent Cleaning and Use• Long-Term Performance Without Deterioration By maintaining consistency in core tooling and applying controlled variations through colour, the project achieved both efficiency in production and flexibility in design. Project Highlights • Major Healthcare Facility with Complex Wayfinding Requirements• Design-Led Signage with Level-Specific Colour Systems• Consistent Manufacturing Approach Across Large Volumes• Use of CSE_Tech for Hygiene and Durability• Coordinated Delivery Within a Tight and Evolving Programme Client Experience “BTS Aust. was engaged by Diadem to manufacture the Braille signage for the New Royal Children's Hospital project in Melbourne. The scope included custom designs and a series of PMS colour combinations for each level. A late schedule change from the client compounded an already tight programme. The high level of communication from the beginning and the understanding of the design process ensured me that Claudia and the team at BTS Aust. would go to any length to deliver the order to specification and on programme. The signs were delivered on time, looked fantastic and the client was very happy. I look forward to working with BTS Aust. in the future and would recommend them to anyone who expects the best in service and quality.” - Diadem Continuing Partnership This project reflects Braille Tactile Signs Aust.’s ability to support large-scale, design-led environments where performance, compliance, and consistency are critical.

Village Roadshow / Village Cinemas

Where Craftsmanship Led To Innovation Braille Tactile Signs Aust. has a long-standing connection with Village Roadshow and Village Cinemas, with roots dating back to the early 1990s through A.S.A.D. Signs & Precision Engravers. This relationship reflects a shared focus on quality, detail, and high-end project delivery; values that continue to shape our approach today. The Relationship Through A.S.A.D. Signs, Roland Gatt worked closely with Village Roadshow and Warner Bros. across a range of cinema and retail projects, both locally and internationally. This work included the design, prototyping, and manufacture of architecturally designed elements, contributing to environments recognised for their attention to detail, presentation, and high-quality finish. The Origin In the early 2000s, Village Roadshow required Braille Tactile Signage as part of their commitment to high quality, inclusive cinema environments. At that time, there were no established local options for Braille Tactile Signage in Australia. Roland Gatt, through A.S.A.D. Signs & Co., was already working closely with Village Roadshow and Warner Brothers, delivering architecturally designed elements across their cinema projects locally and internationally – including their well-known ‘star door handles’. Known for their focus on detail and premium finishes, Village Roadshow sought a solution that aligned with these same high standards. With a background in engineering, fabrication, and decades of signage experience, Roland undertook the research, development and prototyping required to create our very first Braille Tactile Sign solution. This work marked the beginning of Braille Tactile Signs Aust. The Outcome The initial solution delivered for Village Roadshow met the requirements of the time, providing compliant, durable signage suitable for the environment. From this foundation, the product and technology have continued to evolve, leading to the advanced solutions delivered today. Value Over Time Quality is proven over time. What began as a project-driven solution has evolved into a specialist capability, shaped by ongoing development, real-world application, and a commitment to continuous improvement. Braille Tactile Signs Aust. focuses on delivering solutions that perform over time, supporting long-term reliability and consistent outcomes across projects. Project Highlights Braille Tactile Signs Aust. has supported Village Roadshow and Village Cinemas across a range of projects over many years, contributing to both cinema and office environments. This includes the delivery of Braille Tactile Signs aligned with project requirements, supporting consistency, usability, and presentation across multiple sites. Client Experience “A.S.A.D. Precision and BTS Aust. have successfully provided services for our company across a large number of cinema and office projects throughout Victoria and on a global scale. They have consistently demonstrated a commitment to prompt service, a high standard of workmanship, and a willingness to assist in meeting our brief.” – Village Cinemas Continuing The Relationship We value our long-standing connection with Village Roadshow and the role it has played in shaping the foundations of Braille Tactile Signs Aust. We continue to carry forward the same focus on quality, craftsmanship, and performance across every project we support.
