Reviews From Students
It's important we have these special signs in our school so we can learn Braille and Auslan, not only in class but in the yard too.
Whenever I run past, I stop and look and practise my Auslan I'm getting better at it!
Tobias (9)
At lunch time we play “schools”, and we give each other words and try to find all the letters with our eyes closed. We touch the braille, and we try to figure out how to spell the word.
Lola (10)
I often touch the Braille to get familiar with other ways to communicate. It helps me understand that we all have different strengths and skills, and we all learn differently.
Ben (10)
When the bell goes, I always see people walking past feeling all the braille letters to get in one more practice!

Testimonial
It is lovely seeing the students interact and play with the A-Z Auslan and Braille signage. It was important to hear from our students as to where and how these signs should be displayed in our yard.
The grade 3 and 4 students decided to redesign an area of our school and painted creative designs on to fence palings to match each word on our signs.
The students take great pride in this area of our yard and are proud to be learning to communicate in inclusive ways. These signs, in conjunction with our Auslan Program help us make this possible.
Chris and the whole team at Braille Tactile Signs (BTS) were wonderful to work with. Throughout the process we were offered a range of design options including colour ways and finishes to suit our desired vision.
They were efficient and helpful, and it was a pleasure to work with them on this project. We will be working with them soon to continue to make sure our school has appropriate signage for all.

What is Auslan?
Auslan is the language of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. It is used by people who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Autistic, non-verbal and selective mute amongst others to convey thoughts, ideas, opinions, feelings, emotions and information.
Auslan uses a combination of Handshapes (38 +), Orientation, Location and Movement to convey both simple and complex communication. Access to learning Auslan can also help the hearing community overcome barriers they face when communicating with people who use Auslan only.
Did You Know?
Just as the spoken language changes, there are different sign languages used around the world in different countries!
