World Sight Day 2025: Celebrating Vision, Inclusion & Impact

On 18 September, Braille Tactile Signs Aust. proudly hosted our World Sight Day Breakfast Forum, a morning that brought together community, industry, and lived experience to celebrate, challenge, and inspire.

The energy in the room was undeniable. From thought-provoking presentations to genuine conversations, the Forum reflected what we value most at BTS Aust.: collaboration, accessibility, impact, and fun.

Why World Sight Day Matters

World Sight Day, coordinated by the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), is the world’s largest day of awareness for eye health and vision care. Each year, it serves as a powerful reminder that accessibility is not optional and that everyone deserves the opportunity to navigate the world with clarity, confidence, and independence.

The 2025 global theme, “Love Your Eyes,” focuses on two key areas: eye health at work and eye health for children, with a simple but vital call to action: Get Your Eyes Checked.

At BTS Aust., we believe that eye health and accessibility go hand in hand. Our mission extends beyond crafting compliant Braille Tactile Signs; it’s about ensuring that environments empower independence for people who are blind or have low vision, and that awareness translates into meaningful action.

A Morning of Meaningful Conversation

The Forum opened with an acknowledgment of the incredible work being done across Australia and around the world to make accessibility the standard, not the exception.

We were deeply honoured to hear from a powerful line-up of speakers who reminded us why this work matters:

  • Brandon Ah Tong (IAPB) is highlighting the global scale of vision impairment and the urgent need for high-quality, equitable solutions, while keeping the morning energised as our MC.

  • Tsu Shan Chambers (Wise Goat Productions) on sharing how authentic storytelling and inclusive filmmaking can shift perceptions, with her moving project My Eyes.

  • Chris Edwards (Vision Australia) is reinforcing the vital role of Braille in education, and the positive future of Braille literacy and independence.

  • Jonathan Craig (Vision 2020 Australia) on challenging assumptions and sparking important conversations about employment, inclusion, and equity.

  • Claudia Gatt & Kierin Lewis (BTS Aust.) are exploring the importance of quality, longevity, and education in accessibility, and how innovation in universal design creates lasting impact.

Continuing the Conversation

As we mark World Sight Day 2025, we’re reminded that creating inclusive environments begins with awareness and continues through action. Whether it’s through advocating for universal design, supporting eye health initiatives, or ensuring accessibility in the built environment, every effort makes a difference.

At Braille Tactile Signs Aust., we believe that everyone deserves to navigate the world with confidence. That belief is at the heart of everything we do and at the heart of what World Sight Day represents.

This year’s Breakfast Forum was more than just an event. It was a celebration of inclusion, innovation, and impact, a space to connect, to listen, and to lead together. None of it would have been possible without the generosity and shared passion of our sponsors, partners, and supporters who continue to back this vision.

Thank you for raising awareness around eye health, for championing inclusive design, and for contributing to a powerful collective effort that truly makes a difference. From advocacy to innovation, from education to lived experience, your support is what it’s all about.

“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”
- Helen Keller

That spirit of collaboration is what drives us forward, as a business, as an industry, and as a community committed to a more inclusive world.

Here’s to continuing to make a real impact.
Here’s to inclusion.
Here’s to us.
