Understanding Ambulant and Accessible Toilets LH / RH

Accessible Toilet LH or RH indicate Left or Right Hand side transfer rails. Refers to the side the Grab Rail is on when seated on the toilet.

An Ambulant Toilet is designed for individuals with mobility limitations who do not use a wheelchair. Featuring grab rails on both sides, and increased widths to ensure safer movement. Ambulant toilets are often located within standard male and female blocks of toilets and are intended for people with conditions like arthritis or those using walking aids. Ambulant cubicles require signage on the cubicle door to identify it's an Ambulant toilet.
