Supporting Community Through Partnership at the Lions Australia In the Driver's Seat Event at Sandown Raceway 2026
What would it feel like to get behind the wheel if you’ve never had the chance before? What would that experience be like for a blind person? For many people who are blind or have low vision, that opportunity can feel almost unimaginable. And for those with sight, it's often just as difficult to imagine how a blind person could safely experience driving.
Celebrating its 28th year, the Lions Australia In the Driver's Seat event has been creating exactly that opportunity for people who are blind or have low vision. Held at Sandown Raceway, the event provides a safe, controlled environment where participants experience the freedom and excitement of driving in dual-control driving school vehicles, with qualified driving instructors and dedicated volunteers ensuring every drive is carefully supervised and safe.
Braille Tactile Signs Aust. was proud to once again support this remarkable event as an Event Sponsor.

This year, we also had the privilege of expanding our Tactile Sports Diagrams by creating a custom tactile diagram of the Sandown Raceway circuit, giving participants the opportunity to explore the track through touch before they drove.
Many shared that feeling the circuit beforehand helped them build a mental picture of the layout, creating confidence before getting behind the wheel. After their drive, participants returned to the tactile diagram to relive the experience, connecting each corner and straight with the exhilaration they had just experienced on the track.

It was a powerful reminder that accessibility is about far more than helping people find their way. It's about creating opportunities to participate, understand and experience the world with greater confidence, fun and engagement.
At Braille Tactile Signs Aust., we believe the strongest outcomes come from listening, learning and working alongside the communities we support. Through partnerships like In the Driver's Seat, we continue to see firsthand how thoughtful, accessible design can make meaningful experiences more inclusive for everyone.
Congratulations to Lions Australia, the volunteers, driving instructors and fellow Event Sponsors for continuing to make this incredible day possible. It is a privilege to be part of this event that creates such lasting memories and meaningful opportunities, not only for the VIP drivers, but their families, friends and all involved.
